Diesel Generator Rotating Diodes Testing

“Rotating diodes are diodes located in the rotor of a synchronous machine, between the excitor and the main field winding. They convert the alternating current (AC) output of the excitor into direct current (DC), which can be used to magnetize the main field windings and poles. Diodes can fail due to excessive forward current or a large reverse voltage. A large reverse voltage can cause a shorted diode, while overcurrent can make it fail open. “
