Function of UMC:
A UMC is an intelligent motor management and protection device used in Motor Control Centers (MCCs). Its main functions are:
1-Motor Protection-
Protects motors against overload, short circuit, phase imbalance, underload, locked rotor, earth fault, etc.
2-Motor Control-
Allows direct start, star-delta, reversing, or soft starting of motors.
Can be controlled locally (pushbuttons) or remotely (via PLC/DCS).
3-Monitoring-
Continuously monitors motor current, voltage, power factor, temperature, and running hours.
Provides real-time status of the motor (running, stopped, tripped, fault reason).
4-Communication-
Supports communication with higher-level systems (PLC, SCADA, DCS) via protocols like Profibus, Modbus, Profinet, etc.
Helps in integrating the motor into automation systems.
5-Energy Efficiency
Tracks energy consumption and load profile, useful for maintenance and energy-saving decisions.
In short: UMC = One compact device that combines motor protection, control, monitoring, and communication.
