Diesel engines rely on a network of sensors to ensure peak performance and reliability. these sensors enable modern engines to run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with emissions standards. Dive into the world of engine sensors and discover how they enhance performance and safety!
1. Engine Control Module (ECM): manages all the input sensor and output sensor in many system such as fuel injection timing and quantity, air-fuel ratio, turbocharger operation, and ignition timing to optimize performance, while monitoring engine temperatures and diagnosing potential issues. By integrating these controls, the ECM ensures the engine runs smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental regulations.
2. Engine oil pressure sensor is installed on the left side of the block this is used as an input for standard engine protection. If Oil pressure is reduced the sensor give alarm to operator about the problem and can shut off the engine as protection
3. Camshaft Position sensor: is mounted on the front gear cover it is a Hall effect sensor and provides the primary engine position signal and secondary speed input into the ECM for fueling and Timing. The Sensor reads the reference blocks cast into the solid Cam shaft gear.
4. Coolant temperature sensor: is located on the front right side of the cylinder block between the water-pump and oil cooler casting bosses. This primary Input from this sensor allows the ECM to control fan operation, grid heater, fueling and timing control, and standard engine protection.
5. Ambient air pressure sensor: is mounted on the intake manifold top cover it senses Barometric pressure which is used to adjust fueling calculated to protect the turbo charger in high altitude operation.
6. Combined Intake Temperature and Pressure Sensor: This dual-purpose sensor is located in the Intake Manifold top cover. The sensor provides Temperature and Pressure signals for the ECM to calculate Air fuel control values. (Often referred to as the TMAP sensor)
7. Crankshaft Position sensor: The Crankshaft Speed Sensor (ESS ) is mounted on the left rear side of the block .this signal provides the primary speed input and secondary position inputs into the ECM
8. High pressure fuel rail – fuel pressure sensor: The Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor is mounted in the fuel rail. This signal to the ECM determines the fuel pressure in the rail and is used to calculate fueling and timing.
