✔ Large capacity generators are not solidly grounded because,
*During ground faults, the fault current is very high and imposes a stress on the equipment and protective device leading to severe damage and extensive interruptions in the system.
*It causes system instability in interconnected power system network. The high fault current flow disrupts the system stability, leading to voltage fluctuations.
*The high fault current from ground faults causes stress on the equipment like transformer, CT, circuit breakers, cables etc., leading to accelerated ageing, insulation breakdown and increased maintenance requirements.
*It makes the selective coordination of protective equipment more challenging. The high fault current makes it harder to isolate the faulted section quickly and efficiently.
*The high fault current may lead to arc flash hazards, electrical shock hazards and equipment damage. This increases the risk for human personnel and equipment.
