Understanding Overvoltage in Power Systems:
- Continuous Power-Frequency Voltage: We need a power-frequency voltage with an RMS value equal to the highest voltage of the system. Its duration should correspond to the lifetime of the equipment.
- Temporary Overvoltage: We rely on a standard power-frequency short-duration voltage with an RMS value equal to half of the assumed maximum of the temporary overvoltage. *Standard Withstand Voltage Test: Short-duration Power frequency test
- Slow-Front Overvoltage: Standard switching impulse with a peak value equal to the peak value of the assumed maximum of slow-front overvoltage. *Standard Withstand Voltage Test: Switching impulse test
- Fast-Front Overvoltage: Fast-front overvoltage, we use a standard lightning impulse with a peak value equal to the peak value of the assumed maximum stress of the fast-front overvoltage phase to earth. *Standard Withstand Voltage Test: Lightning impulse test
